I’m a naturalist based in the county of Lincolnshire, UK. This weblog is based around my interest in the study and biological recording of Aculeate Hymenoptera – bees, wasps and ants (I’m the County Recorder for Lincolnshire). Here you’ll find news articles, research studies and general musings on the subject.
Among other things, I’m a member of the Bees, Wasps & Ants Recording Society (BWARS), the British Entomological & Natural History Society (BENHS), Buglife, the Bumblebee Conservation Trust (BBCT), the Lincolnshire Naturalists’ Union (LNU), the Yorkshire Naturalists’ Union (YNU), the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Entomological Society (DANES), the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust (LWT) and the RSPB.
Why norwegica? My blog username is simply the species name of a social wasp called: Dolichovespula norwegica.. plus some of my ancestry is Norwegian.
Hope you enjoy the blog!

Excellent Alan, and best wishes for the site. You should alert Nigel Jones, the BWARS webmaster, and a link will be posted on the BWARS board. It will be great to have a decent blog available on this subject.
More soon I hope (especially winter bumblebee reports)!
Stuart
I am so glad there are still naturalists out there. Your blog is amazing!
Looking forward to reading your blog (which I’ve just found) Stuart at BWARS got me interested in bees & wasps and now I’m totally hooked! I’m a real “newbie” but very enthusiastic and can’t believe how many species I’ve found just in my Dorset garden. Looking out for C. hederae at the moment…
Great blog, I am also an enthusiastic newbie particularly interested in social wasps and bumblebees.
